Hiking the Nakasendo from Magome to Tsumago was really special and so many surprises along the way (waterfalls, tea house). We were so happy to end this adventure with Hotel Fukinomori relaxing and peaceful onsen, gracious and kind staff and creative and wonderful food. We will never forget it.

Hotel Fukinomori is the best among the 5 hotels I had stayed in this trip. The onsen, kaiseki meal, service all is superb.

In onsen changing room. Water drinking tank tap is very tight. I found people cannot fully turn it off resulting water dripping on floor. Better put a notice to avoid people or change to other water dispenser.

We thought Tsumago was amazing, they probably don`t see many Europeans but the people we met were helpful and friendly. Tomorrow we will drive to Nagiso. We love the ryokan and check onsen etiquette before using the bath. For non-Japanese a guide in room would be helpful. Also being told is to rally acceptable to wear Kimonos to dinner would also be helpful.

We lived in Tokyo 38 years ago, drove ourselves to Tsumago. We are reminded of the courtesy, kindness, politeness, attention to detail, pride, cleanliness, promptness and efficiency. What has changed is better infrastructure, many more tourists and more English spoken in the larger cites.

Hotel Fukinomori was a wonderful oasis and nice reprieve from busy cities. We loved the open air onsens and our meals were delicious. The staff were all very welcoming and accommodating.

We liked Ishigaki Island. We were here in 2024 and enjoyed the Sakura, Hakone, Kyoto (OfCourse) and Kamakura. We especially like Japanese esthetics like how meals are presented and gardens and designed. Walking the Nakasendo was delightful. Onsen here was great.
